Conclusion

Long Island Site 4 A had no readings for E. coli, nitrates, or phosphates. Dissolved oxygen and pH levels were within the EPA suggested range for supporting life although conductivity levels were just below the range for supporting a diversity of aquatic life. Certain intolerant species may not be able to survive here. Erosion is not a major issue although sedimentation is creating sand and gravel shelves which is channelizing the stream resulting in pooling. The primary concern is the yard waste that is being dumped on the rip rap at the top of left bank. As with site B, a proposed tree planting would alleviate the lack of trees in this area and provide the stream with needed shade.
